I just discovered the forum here and look forward to hearing your advice. I have a Westinghouse HDTV (LTV-32w1), a Motorola DVR (DCT3416), and a Toshiba DVD player. I would like to get a remote that controls all of these without loss of functionality. I don't want to spend a fortune on it, since I do not have a lot of components. Any suggestions of cheap models that would use this particular player? Thanks in advance

Buy or use a remote made by Universal Electronics.
For the Westinghouse, use setup code TV 0885.
For the Motorola, use Cable 1376
For the Toshiba (you didn't specify the model) use Video 0503 for older players, and Video 1008 for new players and recorders.

A Comcast remote with a red OK select button will work, as will many Atlas remotes supplied by some cable companies, and the Cox 7820B.

RCA RCRP05B ($20 at Walgreens and BestBuy)
OneForAll URC-8820 or 10820 (around $20 at Sears)

All of these will work with your equipment, and control most functions. UEI remotes can also be programmed on a button by button basis in case any needed function isn't available in the stock remote.

For example, the DCT3416 can do a 30 second skip on recorded programs, but it isn't built in to the remotes. We can tell you how to add the 30 second skip.

Is your remote the DRC-400/425? That remote is made by UEI, but unfortunately it doesn't have the code for the TV or DVD.

OK, there's a chance that the DRC800 will do the job.
For the Westinghouse, use setup code TV 0885.
For the Motorola, use Cable 0476/1376
For the Toshiba use Video 0503. This should work for older players.
New players and recorders need Video 1008, but that isn't available.

If some buttons don't do what you want, let us know and we can get those to work. But do tell us the exact model of the Toshiba DVD player.
