Hello, I currently have a logitech universal remote but it's only IR. I am putting my components into a cabinet now so I would like an RF remote.
I've heards the nightmares with Logitech 900 so I will skip that.

Is the URC the best place to go? I want something under 400 and something I can program myself (I'm pretty tech savy so I can figure that stuff out).
I've heard the RF-20 is good...what about the RF-30? Whats the difference?
Would I also need the power blaster with these?

thanks for any help!

Here is a review of those devices, the differences are explained in detail.

The screens are the biggest difference between them. The RF30 has a touch screen

You will need the PowerBlaster in order to get RF functionality.

You can get the RFS200 which is just an RF20 bundled with the powerblaster for well under $100. This is a good value for an RF remote.

Other options to consider for under $400
You could get a MX-450+MRF-260 for ~$400
You could get a Philips TSU9200+RFX9200 for ~$400. This would have the advantage of PC programming. I have never had one of these so I can't speak to quality.
You could get a Xsight Touch+RF Extender for ~400. This is also PC programmable. This is not my favorite choice in this price range because of the software though.
You could get a Harmony 900 for under $400 but I would warn you that these are not getting great press.

In all honesty there are a lot of choices in the under $400 range.

Great, thanks for the input!
So it looks like the Philips also gets bad press -- it's sounding like URC is the best of the best.
I do like the PC programming but I'm sure that can be overcome.

Now is there much effort or opinion from anyone when comparing the RF20/30 to the higher end MX450?

Lets see.

The most is the button layout. Both are good but it is up to you which you prefer.
The mx-450 has a color screen.
The mx-450 shares an RF base station with the rest of the complete control line which means that you have some more upgrade options later.
The mx-450 has a lot more flexibility from an RF perspective. It has addressable RF output and you can turn IR output on or off.
The mx-450 allows you to update the version of the internal code database via a connected PC.
The mx-450 allows you to save copies of your config.
The mx-450 has more soft buttons
The soft buttons on the mx-450 can have much longer labels so you do not have to abbreviate so much.

I am sure there is more but that is what is top of mind.

OK great stuff so how about programming the 450?
Not PC programable right? so it's all done within the remote screen?
Is it easy enough to figure out (or find some tips online?) Or do I have to be a remote pro?

thanks again!

Both remotes are programmable through the screen only.

I think that they both require about the same skill to program. The MX-450 may be a little easier to learn due to the more descriptive screens.

The MX450 also has an on-screen macro editor, so you can see and make adjustments to the macro as you build it. No so in the RF20/30.
