Hello all, wondering if you can help me with this. I have a Sony KDL-37W5500 LCD, a Sony Blu-Ray, Logitech Z5400, Scientific Atlanta 8300DVB (UK VirginMedia STB) and a Freecom WLAN 450, and i decided it was time for a single remote. The Harmony One looked a good price and very customisable, so i bought one. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to want to play ball. My TV remote has no way of setting a specific input (there are 10 to choose from) so the harmony has to remember where it was an use an up/down movement to choose the next input (not too good). I know the discrete buttons exist (the harmony has them in the TV's profile), but for some reason, they don't work out, even as additional commands. I've tried messing with other additional commands and delays, but it just doesn't want to work for me. it also regularly fails to turn off the amp, so I'm going to return it under logitech's 30-day guarantee

So - what I'm hoping is for someone to help me out with choosing a new one. Ideally, it would be activity based, like the Harmony, but allowing me to choose *everything*. Importantly, it needs to be able to send commands I can't teach it from the existing remotes, as they don't actually have buttons for all functions (like the TV direct input select). I'd like the buttons to have the obvious functions without me having to teach it (so if i'm watching TV the play / pause buttons will activate the STB controls, etc). Having said that, a full manual setup would be OK if it's the right device for me and my wife. Budget is up to £150.

I have another concern too - if I can't make it do what i want, it's useless to me, so i need to be able to send it back :-) I'm in the UK too.

Thanks folks.

If your TV does not have discrete commands for selecting inputs, any other remote you buy, will be more difficult to set up and get to work, than the Harmony. Harmony actually keeps variables to track what input is selected, and how many locations to go, to change between the inputs. If this wasn't working correctly on your Harmony, you needed to call tech support, and walk through getting this configured correctly.

If you weren't able to get this to work with the Harmony, I think your chances of getting this to work with a URC or other remote are even worse. The issue is the lack of discretes for input selection.

If the input selection commands won't work with the individual pages in the remote, they won't work when used in setting up an activity. Sounds like the remote didn't work, because it was never really troubleshot. A call to Harmony's tech support would have given you a list of activitys to go throught to determine what was wrong.

Do you have the Sony remote? If so, does it show the part # for the remote (printed on the remote or inside the remote) RM-YD***?

bcf - that does make *total* sense. I still have it so I probably will do that. I actually like the device (unfortunately, so does my 3-yr old!) so if I can make it work, I would certainly keep it. most of the buttons auto-configure, saving huge amounts of effort.

Joe - RM-ED016 is the model on the front.

Well, URC has codes for the remote RM-YD016 that shows 9 discrete inputs, power on and power off (codeset #521), but that's not a match. Wouldn't hurt to find someone to test it out...
