We just had Thanksgiving at our house and I was showing off my new Nevo Q50 to my father-in-law. He was interested in getting something similar for their house until I told him how much they cost, at which point the conversation turned to something else. Now I would like to get them a good macro-based remote for Christmas, but don't know what to look at for them. I really like my Q50 but that is out of our price range for a present for them. I also have several MX-700s which I am sure I could find a good deal on but I think they would like a more flashy interface. That leads me to the Harmony remotes but I am hesitant because I have heard that the programming options are kind of limited. Maybe that is my best bet though considering what we they need and what we are able to spend on a gift for them. I am very comfortable programming remotes as I have done all of the programming on all of my remotes and I will take care of all of the programming for whatever I get them. Other than that, RF would be very nice so they don't have to keep pointing the remote at the television whenever they select a macro. Something around $100 would be perfect but I could go up to $150 or maybe a bit more. Anyone care to throw a few options my way?

Thanks,

Matt

I don't like Harmony remotes but the Harmony One is very nice for it's price point. You can find them starting at around $150 and I doubt you'll be able to find another flashy remote for that price. No RF.........

Maybe someone else will chime in, but I don't think you're going to be able to find a flashy RF capable remote in this range.

Thanks for the reply kstrange. I spent some time looking at the Harmony website and I came to the same conclusion. I think I will end up getting them the One unless someone can come up with a better solution. Not sure how much I am going to like programming the Harmony (lack of customization) but I guess I won't be the one using it either so I can live with it. And I understand that RF is probably off the table at this price point.

I hope someone else can give you a better idea........but I think this is the way I'd go for the money!

Just don't tell anyone that I suggested a Harmony......lol

The Harmony One is the only Harmony remote that I've ever liked!
