Hi All,
I appreciate any advice that you can give a tech novice here. My wife and I have an LCD hung above the fireplace and I would like to keep all components in the basement and out of site. i am thinking RF is the way to go or I could connect some type of an IR extneder to the components int he basement.
The items I wnat intially will be for the TV, Direct TV (DVR), and a regular DVD player. I will probbaly upgrade to blue ray in the near future.
My long term (next remote) will be to potentially tie in the HAI home automations system. This unit will control lights, radio, temp etc. I do not have a lot of the programming done on the HAI unit but am interested in what might be a good migration path.
Thanks for the advice, Pat

Since you have a HAI system, why not just expand on it with this:

I think part of it is the cost associated to this "remote" woudl be too pricey. I have not had all of the features programed on the unit yet. So it would be an expensive solution for just the remote control piece.
