Hello everyone.

I'm trying to access the service menu of my Sharp LED TV using RS-232.

Currently I have a Raspberry Pi 2 connected to the TV and I am successfully able to send the standard commands from the TV's manual. (For example, 'POWR1___' to turn on the set.)

There's no command listed in the manual to access the service menu. Currently I have enter MENU-3-4-8-1 on the remote. I tried entering that button sequence over RS-232 with no success.

I found a discrete hex code (pasted below) on these forums that I'd like to try, but I have no idea if it's possible to send this type of command over RS-232 (or convert it into something more useful).

Any ideas?

Aforementioned discrete hex code:
SHARP-AQUOS (1,64) Service mode
0000 006d 0000 0020 000a 0047 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 0047 000a 001e 000a 0047 000a 001e 000a 068b 000a 0047 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 001e 000a 0047 000a 0047 000a 0047 000a 0047 000a 0047 000a 0047 000a 001e 000a 0047 000a 001e 000a 0047 000a 068b

That hex code is an IR code; you're using RS-232.

If your service menu sequence doesn't work with the factory remote, there's no reason to expect that it will work with RS-232.

Thanks for the response. Makes sense, being new to this I didn't want make assumptions about what is or is not possible.

Just to be clear entering the button sequence with the remote works. Entering the button sequence via RS-232 does not. So I'm wondering if anyone else has had success entering the service menu through RS-232.
