Hello, I am new to the forum and have a very basic understanding of RS-232.

I am looking to control 10 Kramer switcher/scalers VP-443 via RS-232 port.

To make things stupid simple for my client, I am planning to install three mechanical buttons that will switch the 3 necessary inputs on all 10 Kramers at once.

My plan is to go from the mechanical buttons to the three contactors on a Global Cache GC-100-12 device. Output from the GC device via RS-232 to the 10 Kramers.

I have struggled to find a hub of some type that will broadcast my single RS-232 output to all 10 switchers. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I would look up the schematic for a serial cable and wire a one to 10 way splitter. You could just buy a series of 1-to-two way serial splitters, but it will look ugly. It's not hard, but a tad time consuming.

I just finished a project with the GC-100-12. They only have two RS232 ports. Wouldn't it make more sense and completely uncomplicate any testing issues you have by doing a 1-to-1 232 port to matrix switcher?

What is your UI or control system? It seems easier to just build a macro to fire everything at once than the issues you are going to have to overcome to sling ten of those together. RS232, depending on the device, can be very unforgiving sometimes with a premade cable one to one. I can't imagine the issues you might have splicing ten together.

I'd try it. I wouldn't leave it that way, but I'd splice some wires together to see if it would work. RS232 only needs three wires for communication. Though I wonder how degraded that signal will be by the time it passes through your giant ball of splice.

I know this is an older post but 4 XOVP14's would give you 13 available ports.

Connect one XOVP14 to the other three and you have four available ports on those three plus one on the main one connected to the three.
