i just received a IR543AH from Automated Outlet. First thing I notice is that there is no AH on the model number...just IR543. But the box has IR543AH. Upon plugging it in the red light flashes 4 times and stops. None of the buttons on the top of the unit function.
When I use my remote to operate the unit here is what I get:
Press housecode -1 red blip
Press Unit Number -2 red blips
Press the On or Off -2 red blips
Then nothing happens.

I also have the IR543 which sucessfully transmits the x10 codes from my iPronto tsi6400. Can anyone tell me if the buttons on top of the IR543AH are suppose to work and if your IR543AH blips the same when using the remote.
Thanks

Mike,

The answer to both of your specific questions is 'yes'. Are you sure that you are using the same housecode as your X10 devices are set to? Why use more than one housecode anyway?

First, thank you Guy for your time and response. I have x10 in all three bedrooms, living areas, bath rooms and exterior of the house. Using 3 separate house codes keeps those slippy fingers from turning my bedroom lights on while asleep.

Since none of my buttons work on the IR543AH unit when I press them, should I assume the device is faulty?
I set the system to house code "A" and turn "all off" or "all on" or if I press "on" or "off"
no lights respond. Then plug in my IR543 and it works like a charm.

Should I see IR543AH on the unit?

Any response is greatly appreciated

My IR543AH looks exactly like my IR543. On the back, it has two labels. The first, which is in the centre and laminated, simply says IR543. the second, which is to one side, says IR543AH v2.

Even if it is an IR543 only, it should still work when you use house code A (just like your current IR543 does). So, yes, it does sound faulty.

There are three other possibilities I can think of.

1. As you will know, X10 is pretty unreliable because of 'noise'. Have you tried plugging the IR543AH into exactly the same plug socket as your (working) IR543 is plugged into?

2. You have a voltage problem. For example, I bought my first IR543AH from the US (110 volts) but it didn't work in my house in Australia (240 volts). I then bought a second IR543AH in Australia and it worked fine.

3. The IR codes for the IR543AH are different than those for the IR543. When I received my IR543AH, it came with a disc with the Hex codes on and these are the ones that I use.

Yes, I really think it is defective. It is a USA 110 volt unit, I tried a different plug and still nothing lights up either on the unit or in the room. My unit did not come with any markings on the back other than the IR543 and there was not a disc with Hex Codes.

I am returning the unit for an exchange.

I did not get a cd with any codes. Were the Hex codes something I could paste into my ipronto edit software?

Thank You for your time Guy.

Re pasting in the codes: I don't know as my Pronto is a different model (9400). I bought my IR543AH from smarthomeusa ([Link: smarthomeusa.com]). If, when you get your replacement device and your IR543 codes don't cover all the commands, send me an RC email and I can send you the codes.
