Newb question about RS232. I just picked up the RA-RS232 and added it to my system. I copied my RA-IR directly to it. I control the RA-IR via MX-900 and MX-3000. This may seem like a really basic question but how do I control the RA-RS232? MUST I use a PC with some type of control software to utilize the RA-RS232? I have several PC's I can use if this is the case.

TIA for any info on this

Dave

You need to use the MSC-400 with the RS232M cables.

You would also program all the RS232 commands from within the MSC-400 editor.

JoeyCes:

Thanks for the reply. Maybe it would be best if I explained what I'm looking to try to accomplish.

First, I'd like to have 2 way feedback of the RadioRA system using a PC either locally or remotely using a web browser. I have a full functioning wired/wireless network. I'm able to control my home network remotely. I have 11 zones of RadioRA lighting in the house. I'd like to be able to see the status of each zone and turn each zone on or off. Even if I have to control each zone independently (touch/click one button for each zone) that would be fine. Wouldn't I also have 4 scenes remaining I could program on the RA-RS232? Plus the all off or all on command, scene 16 & 17?

Second, I would like to automate zones or scenes when I wont be home for extended periods of time.

Can the MSC-400 do all this? It doesn't appear the RA-Net will. I know the Chronos probably can but that's out of my price range.

Thanks for any advice

Dave

davey,

i'm starting to play with it now too and it looks like each module can be a 'zone' whereas there are only 15 scenes/rooms along with 16 & 17 for all on/off. is this what you understand also?

For scheduling or timers you will need chronos or some software with a timer to send the commands which can be expensive. Even the rs232 piece is not cheap
