Hello all,

Bear with me, as I am relatively new to this, but a quick study. :-)

I have a URC MX-980 which I programmed. I also have an Insteon Controller plugged in via USB to my MCE computer in the den upstairs - that controls some X-10 wall plugs for 2 lights in the main living room.

I would like to have the MX-980 control the 2 lights using the existing X-10 wall plugs. I have searched and haven't really found an answer on HOW. I know I can, just not sure HOW.

BTW, I am using the URC MRF-350 and 250 extender with no IR.

Any advice appreciated.

Not really the answer you're looking for, but have you considered using the new Lutron/URC pieces, rather than the X-10 units you currently have?

The direct rf control available with your 980 would be far more reliable then what you're currently planning. What I should add though, is that the premise of the URC/Lutron lighting sytem is meant for a single room application. Not a whole home solution.

At $116 a pop, it might be cost prohibitive for the house we are in. Can't wait to sell this house and move. Then it will be a must for the whole house.

Anyone else that has worked with the URC MX-980 and X-10's?

The Remotr cannot send RF directly to X-10 or insteon. You need either an IR-543 or the insteon IR unit. I am not sure if the insteon unit sends but the IR-543 works with X-10 only. Then you need the IR codes in the files section and an emitter in front of the IR-543.

So I have the Insteon HouseLinc 2-enabled PowerLinc Modem with USB. Can I use this as the controller?

I'm using INSTEON devices and an ISY-99I which is a controller with IR from Universal Devices. I'm using the MRF-250 to send IR to the Universal Devices (ISY-99I) controller. In the ISY-99I I define a magnovox TV IR codes, I use the 15MF605T. Now in the ISY-99 you have to write some code, it's very simple, to control on/off, dim/bright etc. Then in your universal remote you create a device for the magnovox tv. I have two mx-810s, one mx-980, one mx-880 and one KP-900 and all can control the lights.

I know this does not answer your specific question but it is an alternative. By the way, the ISY-99I can sent X-10 commands.
