HAI Omni IIe 2.16, UPB HAI Lighting

i have a house that i am working on with about 40 switches. i started in the kitchen and was able to program a scene and 5 switches. after this, i could not program any more switches in the house. i can use the omni IIe and the scene switch to control the 5 switches. i can also use upstart to program switches and control them.

i have defaulted switches, changed out the PIM, reset the PIMs.

Are you saying that when you put one of the un-programmed switches into discovery mode, upstart can not find it?

What brand of switches and what phase coupler are you using?

It hard to believe you have a powerline condition that would prevent the discovery of 35 switches. You can always use the install/replace feature in upstart and swap out one of your working kitchen switches to see how the non discoverable switch reacts.

I have only had one problem with a non discoverable switch do to a 3KV ups on the same circuit as the switch was on, this was solved using a split phase repeater from PCS.

We have not really dealt with HAI switches, but it's the same technology as PCS and Simply Automated and they have been solid, in just about every install we have seen. If the install/replace test does not work I would be questioning if there is a lot problem with this production run.

Lighting is HAI. HAI coupler. everything is new.

Upstart does find the lights when put into discovery / setup mode. HAI omni cannot find the light switches.

i think i have a bad board. this morning when i went to the house (new const, owners not living in it yet) i found the omni touchscreen rebooting every 10 - 20 seconds and the key pads with garbage on the screens. i thought i may have exceeded the power rating (1 A) but, have not exceeded the power rating so i am going to contact HAI tuesday and confirm that it is indeed a bad board. what a way to spend the holiday weekend...

It's better than spending it evacuating for a hurricane.

Anyway you should be able to use upstart and the PIM with your laptop independent of your board. That way at least you can get your UPB system up and running.

On your next install you might look at the ELK M1 board, from our experience they have a way lower failure rate. We sell both HAI and Elk and understand HAI has a lot of neat features which are attractive, but at less cost and less headaches a lot of our HAI dealers have made the switch to the M1.

i have looked at it and with the issues i have had with HAI, I may very well make the switch. HAI needs to have better quality control. HAI, are you listening?

I have better luck NOT using upstart on smaller lighting jobs. You may have to restart once again and use only the HAI software - reset the PIM (again). I had the same issue with upstart - but had zero issues with the actual HAI Omni software. Also, call HAI tech support while programming, they actually are very helpful I have found.
