I've had lots and lots of problems with X10 in my current home. I've never had problems in other homes.

Insteon sends signals via RF and the home wiring. From what I understand, Insteon compares the RF signals to the home wiring signals and the signals must agree. Neat feature, but ....

As long as I'm having problems now with my home wiring and X10, I'm worried that switching to Insteon wouldn't work because the RF and home wiring signals wouldn't agree, and I'd have the same problems I have now.

QUESTION 1: Should I be worried about this?

QUESTION 2: Any suggestions on what will avoid home wiring problems? (I've tried the CR234 and a phase coupler on my 220v dryer connection and neither have solved the problem.)

Insteon would be a big improvement over X10. You won't have problems the signals do not have to "agree" as you are thinking Insteon is just a much better more reliable system than X10. I have Insteon throughout my home on every light and it's very reliable.

Not everyone will agree with Rich_Guy's experience. I personally don't use Insteon (I own and install UPB), so take it for what it's worth but, if you were to look at cocoontech.com you would find a GREAT MANY people are VERY unhappy with their personal Insteon experiences.

Everyone I have ever heard from that has used Insteon has praised it very highly, I have not seen one unhappy Insteon user. I have had Insteon on every light in my home for over a year now and recommend it very highly. I live near SmartHome so I have been to their factory store many times, it's a very nice place and they treat their customers very well. Insteon is a very nice quality, well made product that I have found to work better than most of it's competition and is priced very well especially if you take advantage of the auctions and other deals SmartHome offers.

I use Insteon dimmers on every light switch in my home, I use their Control Link controllers, I also control Insteon with my computer and my MX-800 and MX-850 remotes. I have timers that control my home lights as well as an artifical sunrise where Insteon gradually lights my bedroom over 30 minutes making it seem as though the sun has come up even though it is still completely dark out when I get up for work. Insteon has been great for me, a very reliable quality product.

Hey Rich Guy,

How do you control Insteon with your MX 800/850 remotes?

Thanks.

Unless comething new has been releasee, you still control with the IR543 via the X10 mode of the switch.

You can now use:

IRLinc
EZUIRT
ISY-99i/IR Pro

All will give you full IR control of your Insteon network.
