Anyone know why a Smart Switch would only dim or bright a small amount with a sustained bright/dim press? The LED blinks green once then red once and stops. Other SS's right beside it in the same box, on the same breaker continue to blink during the sustained press. I have a LM 4 (older original) and a PCS SS1L/S-600 doing this. I have to press the bright/dim multiple times to attain the desired levels. They both accept and respond to preset dim, on and off commands correctly. Defaulting them does nothing to help.

I don't have any ideas on your problem, but PCS is pretty good about answering technical problems via email. Be sure to include your phone number, becuase they will frequently have a tech call you. One guy who is pretty good at PCS is a fellow named Ernesto. They also list their phone numbers if you want to call them.

Yeah I talked to Ernesto, who is usually pretty good, but they were preparing to leave for a show somewhere so I didn't want to tie him up for now. Lot of work installing an LM4 just to find out it's gimped.

Turned out to be a particular circuit in my house. If I jump in a different hot lead (even retaining the same neutral) TEMPORARILY to the group of PCS switches they perform normally. Now I have to figure out what in hell is with that circuit. It is apparently blocking a manual dim command after about a second, but only on it's circuit, as I can see PCS switches on other branches blinking/seeing/confirming the sustaining command, weird.

It was a Panasonic phone system KXTD1232 digital KSU causing the problem. I can leave it plugged in, switch off it's power and the PCS units manual bright/dim correctly. I have a newer KXTD816-6 that I will replace it with to see if they have addressed the power supply noise issue over time. This 1232 was an early -1 version that I got during an upgrade. I could probably tap the circuit upstream of the KSU also but the switch may nip it in the bud.

I was just about to ask if you had a Panasonic KXTD1232 KSU, and suggest trying a KXTD816-6 in its place. The early -1 version has been known to interfere with Smart Switches and sustained bright/dim presses.

The test is to TEMPORARILY jump in a different hot lead, while retaining the same neutral, and seeing if they perform normally.

I have another 600 watt Smart Switch that controls a couple of MR16 low volt art lights that dims/brights correctly from one 6400 transmitter, but not from two others. So these PCS Smart Switches are pretty touchy overall? Sorry to hear that as I have stocked up on them with this last remodel stage in mind that I am now finishing. If I can teach my wife, a solution would be to have the HA controller count taps and send preset dim commands instead (which seems to work everytime regardless).

The PCS switches are the least touchy available.

Try adjusting the switches receive level to see if you can find a setting that will work reliably. If not, you'll have to address the noise/signal strength issues on your wiring.

This problem has never occured before in the 10 years or so that I have been using the 6400 transmitters with standard older style decora dimmers (6381's ect) And this is occuring with the PCS's on 12 foot home runs! I'm not sure I can adjust the receive level on all my PCS's since some of them are 1st generation (LM4), but I'll give it a try. Thanks for the Fine advice.
