I'm a newbie at x10 and have a very basic question. I have a radio shack remote control system that uses rf to control power outlets. I am using a rfx 6000 with a tsu3000. I am just wondering since the rfx sends out rf, can it control the radio shack rf control system. How would I go about finding how to do this?
Thanks
Paul

RF frequencies are licensed by the FCC, very rarely will you find one device that will control another even if they happen to be at the same wave length. If you have the FCC number you can look up the frequency at [Link: fcc.gov]
But this is normally a carrier frequency and how they use this carrier varies by manufacturer.

In 99.99% of the cases of interest to us, all they do is turn the carrier on and off in the same manner as an IR remote turns the carrier On and Off.

Bottom line is that if the RF carrier is the same and you can find a way to program the codes you can control it.

However, most X-10 and RadioShack RF devices use 310MHz in North America while the TSU3000 uses 418MHz for RF so there's no way for them to communicate directly.

However, if you still want to control your X-10 indirectly using the TSU3000, you can do it using the IR543 (or better the IR543AH) and positioning it where the RFX6000 can send IR to it.

and learn how. ;)

Thank you Dave,
I have purchased the ir 543 and set it up and it works great on ir. I'm having problems getting it to respond to rf. So far I have no signal from the rfx 6000. any ideas?

My only RF-capable Pronto is a TS-1000 that I converted to 310MHz RF.

Try the Pronto forum for how to send RF to the RFX-6000.

Dave, I actually got it working well. I had set both a device and the rfx 6000 to the same code. Thanks for your suggestion. It worked like a charm.
