I'm fairly new to x10, I've been slowly switching over all of my rooms to x10. My finaly room is the kitchen, I'm not sure what i need to set a housecode on the Fluorescent lighting. My goal is to have total control over every light with my pronto. Is their a switch or a module that will allow me to set a housecode on the fluorescent light?

someone back me up here:
i don't think you can use x10 on fluorescent lights. actually, i think there is special equipment needed to use fluorescent lights. i had 2 fluorescent lights that took the place of some standard light bulbs and they just sit there and flicker.

I would think you can use appliance modules (which require a neutral), since they are just relays, but not the dimmers.

For the most part what davehk said is true except for the remark about requiring a neutral(?).
However, there are some new screw in style replacement fluorescent lights that are dimable.

So, if it's a built in fixture using standard 'tubes' then you will need an appliance module.

Also sometimes using a dimable fluorescent light with a lamp module will cause the lamp to come back on after it's been turned off. If this happens then the only solution is to open up the lamp module and disable 'local control' by cutting a track on the printed curcuit board.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Use and X10PRO XPFM. This module I install right in the fluorescent fixture, then set its house/unit codes for X10 control :)

ALL of those available in Europe, including the AW10U [Link: simplyautomate.co.uk] require a neutral, as far as I can see:

AW10U, AD10, AM12W, AWM2 and AW12 all need live, load and neutral line. Plug in modules have a neutral by default.

Thanks, I'm going to try to put an in-line appliance module in the fixture.

There are also a lot of non-dimming light switches available that will work with flourescent lighting.
