Other than you get twice the warranty with X10 PRO, it really depends on the item. Some items are identical and some are very different. Also, with X10 PRO, there are a lot more choices available.

Well I am wanting to change the switches in my family room to x10. I have a fan with a light controlled by two seperate switches, a light in the kitchen and a light in the dining room. So would I use

X10 W12a
x10pro XPD3 or XPS3

along with an IR543?

and can the fan dim?
