Where is the best and quickest place to buy equipment. I'm new to this and want to buy a few things. Is it mail/internet order only? What about modules I've seen at Radio Shack (I know, I know)... Thanks!!

Here's the best place to start.

http://www.homeautomationnet.com/

Bill E. is a frequent contributor to this forum, offers a lot of personal help, has the best prices on the internet, ships the same day the order is received, and uses and tests all of the stuff himself.

If you send an email inquiry, it will be Bill himself that answers. I always like dealing direct with the owner of any company. They always seem to care the most about my satisfaction.

I would to like to second that, I have made several purchase's through Bill lately and must say that he has been great! His prices are good, all of my orders have gone out as promised and the support has been there when I needed it, he also does a good job is steering you towards the products that will fit you best.

I also agree. I have ordered from Bill a couple of times, and he has been there for many questions and
advice.

I buy directly from X10 but only sale items. They often have 3 for 1 sales so instead of paying $30 for a component, you pay $10. Hard to beat. Fast response and quick delivery w/o any delivery costs. How can you beat it?

Dewayne Newell :

Overlooking X-10.com's annoying popup ads, the stuff they sell is X10 basic and yes it is cheap! However, why not check out Homeautomationnet and see what other choices are available?

There's cheap and then there's good at a good price. I prefer the latter. Makes for fewer posts on the forums asking for help on why things don't work right.

Deane, (and I don't mean to sound sarcastic), there's nothing wrong with letting someone learn things by experience, as long as you tell them once. (Anything more is nagging.)

Believe it or not, I've ignored the advice of others and found out for myself. Honest! Then I have a baseline with which I can discern which are the reliable sources.

Do I get burned sometimes? Sure. Do I learn the lesson well? Absolutely! Again, I don't mean to be trite; Dewayne, et al, may well find some long-term reliability along the way.

I finally bought a few x10 outlets to automate my xmas lights.... so i dont have to keep on unplugging everything all the time.. i got 4 x10 outlets shipped to my house for $67 but i went to radio shack because i forgot to buy a controller... well i bought a controller pad that you plug in to the wall for $14. While I was there I noticed that their outlets were the same price!!!!! so radio shack will get my business possibly on some of the stuff sine they looked just like the exact thing!!!! i ordered online at x10.com at about 5pm at night... THE STUFF WAS AT MY HOUSE THE NEXT DAY!!!!!
