I have 2 simple X10 wall switches I want to install in my apartment. My problem is that both wires going to the existing wall switch are black. 1 goes to the top and one to the bottom of the switch.

My X10 switch is a WS467 and has a black and a blue wire. The instructions state:
Black (to live or lamp)
Blue (to lamp or live)

Does it matter which of the 2 black wires the blue wire is attached to??? Don't know if it matters but there is also a coupler (plug) with white wires terminating inside it, but none go to wall switch.

Thanks for answering what is probably an ignorant question

JC, the "coupler" is a wirenut, which in your case, is joining the neutrals. The black and blue don't matter with a single-pole switch; either one to either black house wire.

Not asking when you're unsure would be ignorant.

Especially when dealing with household AC.
