Hello all, I am just beginning to dabble in X-10. I am currently just renting an apartment so I don't really want to start tearing up the walls rewiring things. That, and my newbie lack of electricity skills, has me leaning more towards plugin modules. So say I am using one of the modules that screws into a lightbulb, like the screw-in PSM04 on this page ([Link: homeautomationnet.com]). The lamp I'm planning to use this on hangs from the ceiling and is currently controlled by an existing wall switch.

My question relates to how does the power company charge me. Right now I assume I flick the switch on, juice starts flowing, my charges start mounting. Flick it off, and I am no longer getting charged. If I use the screwin module, I am going to have to keep the wall switch in the always on position, correct? So does that mean I'll be getting charged 24/7 for this lamp, whether X-10 is telling it to be on or not? Or will I only get charged when I use X-10 to turn the light on, and stop getting charged as soon as I turn the light off?

I hope this made sense, and my terminology wasn't too far off. Thanks!

The X10 equipment does draw a very small amount of electric current when 'off'. But it's less than a few cents a month per device, about the same amount as having a neon-night light on 7-24 hours year 'round.
