I've purchased an appliance module to use as a discrete on/off solution for my expressvu 5100 sat receiver. This particular model does not have discretes. Should I have any concerns about damaging my receiver by using this solution.

thanks

Since using a appliance module (to remove power) may cause the 'box' to loose its custom settings, which are saved in standby mode, you might consider just leaving the sat receiver on.

I've thought of that, but just seeing that green light on the receiver bothers me. Maybe another alternative is to take the receiver apart and remove the on light...(just kidding)
There are no settings that are lost, I checked by leaving the power off all night. I think I'm going to use the appliance module just when I shut down the system for the night.

thanks

You could cover the light with a piece of electrical tape (also works for that annoying "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light on the dashboard of your car.)
