Hi,
Is the SR227 safe to use with lamps (that dim or do not dim) and appliances?
If not, can someone please let me know what X10 receptacle is supposed to be used for lamps and which one is for appliances.
I just do not want to have any problems.

When you replace the receptacle it can't dim as there's no way to be sure that someone want plug in a vacuum cleane or something else that isn't dimable. You can plug a light into a non-dimmable module or receptacle but you can't plug an appliance into a dimmable module.

To rephrase what Larry said and make it a little easier to understand, you have two types of X-10 modules, lamp and appliance. Lamp modules will respond to BRIGHT and DIM commands as well as ON, OFF, ALL LIGHTS ON and ALL LIGHTS OFF. Appliance modules do not respond to DIM and BRIGHT commands. Some appliance modules also do not respond to the ALL LIGHTS ON/OFF commands either. The module you are referring to is an appliance module so it will not respond to DIM and BRIGHT commands.
