I have a 15 year old Mitz 35" TV that does not have discrete on and off. When you unplug the TV and then plug it back in you have to hit the TV power to have it go back on. I plan on connencting the TV to an appliance module and then setting up a macro on my mx-800 with the appropriate pauses to have the appliance module turn off, then turn on and then have the TV toggle power be selected.

My fear is the frequent unplugging from the appiance module will be bad for my TV. It has served me well and I don't want to shorten its life span. Can someone tell me if this is something I should be worried about.

Thanks!

Pete

I have a similar non-discrete 40" Mitsu. I am trying to figure out your advantage though....you can't put the TV power command in a source select macro string as it will still turn off your TV when you don't want it to. I do understand the "positve off" you are attaining by addressing your appliance module first. I am using a single-module Gatekeeper for the solution. The IR gate is closed briefly as a pre-cursor if it senses that the TV is in the wrong state for the macro string that the remote is firing. Works great.

Just as I hit the submit button I caught on to what you are doing. I think it would be fine when the TV is already off, but I can only imagine the pops and clicks you are going to experience when the TV is in the "on" state and you cycle through an "on-off" each time you press the source button. I guess with the HTM products it is not customary to include power commands with source selection anyway so maybe you would be alright placing that only in the master on & off sequences. Great idea!

Jazzman I would have it setup with a macro for both a discrete on and off. The dicrete off would just be the appliance module going to off. The discrete on would have the appiance module go off and then on and then the tv power is applied. That way the tv power will never be in a position to turn the tv off during the macro.

I intially bought a smarthome digital bob with a video probe to use with my ocelot for this purpose. Unfortunately, I may have a faulty probe as I cannot get it to work reliably. I need to call Smarthome to look into it further. However failing that, I figured the appliance module route would be a good second choice assuming it does not damage the older TV.

I am not familiar with the gatekeeper, I will have to do some reading on this.

Thanks
