Hi,

I got two x-10 questions for all you X-10 experts out there. The first should be easy?! I hope. How many dim commans does it take for a light to go from full on, to full off? Is it the same for the bright command? It appears to me that about 7 or 8 dim commands equal about a 10% dim, is that about right? However, about 40 bright commands seem to turn my light from full off to full on. So, under this theory bright and dim commands use some sort of diffeert timing, but that does not seem right?!

Question 2-- I have both an x-10 wireless keychain remote (and wireless wall pad control) and an ir-to x-10 converter box. I live in an apartment and both control devices work in half of the apartment, but the ir-to x-10 doesn't seem to send signals to the back half of the apartment, while the wireless x-10 keychain and wireless "wall light pad" does. Any suggestions as to how to get the ir converter box to "reach" the back room.

Thanks for your thoughts on both questions.

Disregard Question 2-- I am a DUFFESS!!!!!!! The x-10 ir converter box was plugged into a surge protector!! That appartenly effected the range it could send x-10 commands, not a big surprise, and makes sense to me. But, it is a bit surprising that the product information that I probably read, as I always read instruction manuals, etc, most likely did not state the fact that it should not be plugged into a surge protector.

--SOOOOOOOOO, DO NOT PLUG IR TO X10 CONVERTERS INTO SURGE PROTECTORS!!!!!!

PLEASE ANSWER QUESTION 1, OF ABOVE IF YOU CAN.

Thanks,

--Doug

your question #1 is a good one. i recently did this test with my ir543 and determined that 8 dim commands would do the trick. so i created a macro on my mx500 remote (play dvd) with 8 dim commands and it was not enough. i think the number of times you press "dim" is dependant on if you do it from an IR remote or on a controller itself. maybe an "expert" out there will enlighten us.

The standard X10 dimmers have 16 dim steps from full bright to off, the better dimmers have 200 steps.

I am glad to hear that others are working on getting X-10 working. I am new at it and I was hoping I can ask some questions. 1) I have a Pronto Pro TSU6000 and I have installed some x-10 light switches and also an x-10 remote control receiver. Do I need to get a separate device that will convert the RF or IR signal to x-10 so I can use my Pronto Pro ...? 2) What is the device called and where can I find one..?

Thank you

i think you mean converting IR to RF. you will need the IR543 IR to RF converter. check with the vendors who advertise on this site for prices.

The IR543 is what is needed but it doesn't convert IR to RF, it converts IR to X10.

Will any IR remote work together with IR543?

If I would get a universal remote that knows X10 which ones would you recommend?

The remote control has both RF and IR capability. I would like to control the x-10 lights and other devices from that remote control (Pronto Pro TSU6000) I looked around on Smarthome.com and they have a IR to X10 converter, I ordered it and will try it.

Oneac: Do you have a link to these babies?

I was thinking of this one as well:

No X10 support though. I guess I would have to get a converter then?
