I use a Xantech 291 IR receiver with 789-44 connecting block to control my pre-pro. It worked fine before I moved recently, but now it doesn't work. When I plug the 291 into the connecting block, the red light comes on (in the 291) and stays on. That doesn't seem right.

Any guesses as to what's gone wrong?

If the red light is on, it's receiving some sort of interfering signal, which is preventing it from "seeing" the real signal

It's most likely getting interference from sunlight, a flourescent light, etc. Also, if you've got it on top of a TV, they often times throw off quite a bit of RF which can cause interference.

I tried moving the receiver away from any likely source of interference (light, rf, etc.). The light is still on.

Power supplies such as 120v ac - 12vdc can cause interfierence. try moving the extender away from such devices.

I'm almost certain interference is not the problem. No matter where I locate the receiver (I held the receiver several feet away from anything), the light remains lit.

Are you using a sheilded cable? Noise can be induced in a twisted pair.

Follow-up:

The problem was the 291 IR receiver. I tried replacing the connector block first, but it didn't make any difference. After replacing the receiver (using the original connector block), it works again. I guess the receiver was somehow damaged in the move.
