thanks for the info, ernie. i have talked to my father in law after posting and he told me of his
setup. it was similar to your suggestion. anyway, the phone is on it's way out of my son's room. he didn't answer the call waiting beep cause he was talking to his girlfriend; and i was the one calling. one more time, i told him, and he'll be talking to his girlfriend in the kitchen where all can hear :)
thanks all.

Simple aproach, the phone wire that goes upto
your son's room first goes through a DPDT switch.
The green and red wires are all you need to concern
yourself with, you can simply cap off the black
and yellow (Blue and white if pressent too) wires.
The switch will allow you to break contact between
your son's phone and the ouside world.

The more complex aproach would be to use an X-10
controled switch to do the same switching function.

thank you G50AE

| I did not stray from the topic as you incorrectly
stated.

His first four words were "Has anyone used x10...." Since your answer did not involve x10, you were straying from the topic.

I did not suggest that his question was not worth
answerring, nor have I ever done so.

You suggested that his question was not worth answering by a)ignoring it and giving him an answer off topic and b)saying that "The more complex aproach would be to use an X-10 controled switch to do the same switching function."

Since he specifically asked about an x10 approach and all you gave him was "use an X-10 switch," WHICH WAS ALL THAT HE ALREADY KNEW WITHOUT KNOWING THE DETAILS, he must have wanted to know the details. Since you gave him no details, you "suggested" that his question was not worth answering.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
