I am currently using a Leviton 6381 switch/dimmer [Link: worthdist.com] . My problem is that my family hates using the switch manually. They always (by mistake) get the light at some level of dimming or sometimes can't turn the light off. I would like to replace this switch with one that is easy to use (manually). I don't need (or want) any dimming capability when using the switch manually. Are there any X10 switches that work exactly like a manual switch? Is that what "true rocker" means? If anyone could recommend a simple X10 switch that works well when manually operated I would sure appreciate it. I don't need any scene capability. I just need to be able to turn it off/on and dim it remotely. This particular light switch get used manually much more often than remotely. Thanks for the help.

Jay

Well, I've purchased a number of Switchlinc dimmers. They have true rocker action (i.e., top on, bottom, off), though the rockers themselves click softly each direction rather than stay "locked" in the on or off position. They have to be held to dim. I have never accidently started the dimming. However, if you dim them and turn them off, they will remember the position and return to that position the next time. You can get them from Homeautomationnet.com, who is a very helpful participant in this forum (and highly recomended), or smarthome.com.

There are also "florescent" versions that do not dim; the switches are available 1-way or 2-way, the 2-way have scenes, the 1-way do not.

Another possibility are PCS switches. These are more complicated to program, and you can actually turn the dimming on or off. Also at the above sources.

How about the XPD and XPS switches from Homeautomation.net. They are much less expensive than the SwitchLinc ones. Are they good quality switches?
