Chris,

This helps a ton. Thanks for the info. I should be set now. I will only be doing this for one light too so it's probably the easiest setup ever.

JATWolf,
Only one light, huh? Yeah, thats what I thought too. Now I have 7 active X10 devices. X10 is addictive. The one I like the best is the one that turns on/off the heating pad (I always used to forget and waste electricity).

ps. Don't worry, it's a good addiciton.

Too bad IRCLONE is out of stock, that seems like a great way to program the MX500. What was the price tag on this unit?

If you have the IRClone setup, I have submitted
a .m5 file that has the "pick an address, turn
it on" and "pick an address turn it off" codes
on a single button for each address from 1 thru
9.

If you are not familiar with IRClone, check www.irclone.com.

I think when I got my IRClone it was $90-100 for both the HW and the SW. I suspect Mike may have to increase the price if he needs to change components due to lack of supply of the old components, which may be causing the out of stock condition. This is purely speculation on my part.

Ha! I just meant all the wall sconces for the theater room would be controlled by remote. I don't think I have anything else in the room that would need to be controlled but who knows. Maybe my refridgerator could be turned to a colder setting by remote or my toilet could be flushed?? jk.

Just an ideas (expensive!). I have MX-500 and a whole bunch of X10 at home. The best solution in the long run from my point of view is Ocelot. It's a bit expensive ($150+), but after it's set up and all macros/IR codes/etc are programmed, you can do pretty much anything. Every key on your MX-500 can be a macro for X10 and you can do other things with IR retransmission. Hope it helps.

I also have the x10 with the MX500 and I recommend
using the MX500's screen to make it easier once
you get the x10 IR set up. Instead of pressing
"1" and "channel up/down" to turn on lights I
programmed the top screen in the aux mode as follows:
Page 1:
LR1 - LR2 (for Living room light 1 & 2)
LR3 - FAM (living room & family room)
ON - OFF
BRITE - DIM
ALL > - ALL < (all on & all off command)
Page 2
KITCH - HALL
BEDRM - PORCH
ON - OFF
BRITE - DIM
ON - OFF
ALL > - ALL <

There you have it. 2 Pages and I never use any
buttons except the top hard buttons on the MX500.
The great part about this is I don't have to remember
what number corresponds to which light, and anyone
can use the remote easily.

Is the only way to move buttons to the lcd buttons is with the ir-clone?

Or another learning remote, yes those are the only ways.

Thanks to those who helped point me in the right direction ( [Link: remotecentral.com] ). I got my X-10 stuff set up today and was pleasantly surprised how easy it is to work with. Plug a lamp module and controller in and that's it!

I do have one problem, however: I can't seem to get the IR543 to respond to my HTM MX-500 remote. I've tried the 093 and 183 device codes with no luck (had to learn 183 from the TV device location, but 093 didn't care).

"You use the remote by pressing 1-9 and 0 for 10 followed by channel up for on, down for off, volume up is bright and down is dim. In addition I believe power, is all lights on and mute is all lights off."

I assume if the X-10 codes are correctly present for the device button, then there's nothing else that needs to be done for the above to work?

If it helps anyone to visualize what I've got in front of me, here are the pre-programmed LCD button commands that resulted from teaching the 093 & 183 codes:

FAVCH / ACTIO
ALPHA / REC
NEXT / SERVI
VIEW / BACK
ALT / HOP

Page 2:
FETCH / HELP
A / E
B / F
C / G
D / H

Does that sound like X-10 stuff?

Stupid question, but I might as well as it ... the IR543's infra red panel *is* on the bottom, correct? It sure looks like it, and I don't see anything else that looks like an IR panel, but since it isn't responding...

It might be that I'm better off just getting a X-10 IR remote that I can teach the MX-500 with and get the LCD buttons the way I want them...

Thanks,
Dan

Remember whatever
device location on the MX-500 you use for X10,
you still need to get code from the AUX code table,
which is the bottom left device button.

Disregard the previous question. I just re-read edmund's post above and it solved the problem. I guess I was thrown off by 183 being accepted from the top right button and not by my x-10 device button, so I figured that was a sign I had the right codes... Works like a champ now!

You need to get AUX183 x10 code from the AUX device table, the bottom left device key. Even though you're using a different device location. You say your using the TV device?, okay here's how;

1. Main and ent
2. P-Pro
3. TV, or whatever device location you choose
4. AUX, you always get the x10 code from here, even if you change it to A TV
5. 183
6. save
7. Main
8. Main

As for controlling equipment that are TOADS, you
can buy powerstrips that have switched outlets,
plug in a component that does have discretes,
as the master, when it comes on, whatevers plugged
into the switched outlets will come on too.

Hi, where can I get this kind of powerstrip and what is it called?
