Is there such a thing as sending a specific code to a lamp module to say that "I want it this dim"? I find myself having to do a power off, power on, then a macro with a ton of dims to get the job done... There's gotta be a better way. I have heard of scene setups, I'm thinking that's my next move, but until then...?

There's no way to do what you want with the gear you have.

You can do it with an IR543AH, LM14A and your Pronto. The manufacturer has only recently started shipping the IR543AH with extended dim capability but existing IR543AH users can get a replacement PIC. The PIC is socketed so the upgrade is easy to do.

It's also possible to modify an IR543 by adding a daughterboard with the IR543AH PIC. This is a bit more involved but not terribly difficult.

I've added the necessary codes to CodeGen™.

Thanks Dave, do you have any info on where I can get this upgrade daughterboard or PIC?

Check first with HomeAutomationNet who distributes the IR543AH in the USA.

If they don't stock it you can try Laser who manufactures it.

Actually, I figured out how to do what I was looking to do. I have four lamps in my living rm. I put two of them (the two that are on either side of the TV) on device code 1, and the other two on device code 2. Then I used the "Multi-step dimmer" created by Chris Couture (found in the X-10 files section of this site). I then created a macro that does this:
Select device 1, full bright (on the multi-level dimmer control), full bright again (to make sure it's all the way up), repeat with device 2, select device 1, alias to dim3 (the dimmest one), then dim3 again (to turn them completely off gradually), select device 2, then an alias to the second level of dim on Chris's multilevel dimmer control.

It works like a champ, and simulates a "scene-capable" dimmer setup.

I just wish there was a way to go from partially dim to full-on with a single step, that would save me a few steps. But this works just fine.

Your best bet is to use scene cabable modules.
