My HouseLinc is now next to the PC, however, I'd like to use its IR features for HT. But the rack for HT is like 20 feet away from the PC. Is it possible to get a 25-foot long serial cable?
I'm thinking of using Keware HomeSeer instead of Plato HouseLinc since I can use the software under Windows 2000. In addition, I can control it via Internet.
Thanks a lot for your help.

It's possible, but depends on data rates. Take a look at this article on length vs protocol: [Link: connectworld.net]I think you might just get by. I will also have Homeseer software available on my site as of Thursday at what I hope will be the best price around. Bill www.homeautomationnet.com

The Houselinc runs at 9600 baud, if I remember correctly. I've run both Houselinc and Ocelot routinely with a 30+ ft cable, with no problems. Using the same cable, I did run into a problem with a 3COM modem at 230.4k baud though.

Hi John and Bill,
Thanks for your response. I don't need the cable anymore. I have an X10 Powerline interface from the ActiveHome kit that I bought almost 2 years ago (completely forgot about it) and I now use it for HomeSeer. For HouseLinc, I'll download the IR codes from the PC and disconnect it.
Thanks again
