Just installed the famous IR543 and downloaded a very basic set of codes from the files here which had been 'learned'. 543 is in line of sight. Performance is erratic. Sometimes one push of a button yields correct action, and other times one must hit the butten several times in order to get a result. Is this just the way the 543 performs or can this situation be improved? Thanks in advance,,,,,

You shouldn't be having problems like that. When you press the buttons on the remote does the light on the IR543 come on? It always comes on when it sees a valid IR command, so if the light isn't always coming on, then the problem is on the IR side... it could be that the codes you have are bad, or that it's just having a hard time 'seeing' the remote you're using. Try to move closer to it. It's also possible that you got a bad unit. On the other hand, if the light is coming on every time you press a button on the remote, then the problem is on the X-10 side... either you have noisy power lines, or there could be an X-10 'signal sucker' near the IR543, or again, it's possible you have a bad one. If this seems to be the problem, try to move the IR543 to another outlet and see if that helps, or try to plug another controller (like a mini controller) into the same outlet as the IR543 and see if that works better.

Do you have a phase coupler installed?. I have a light and a fan in my HT room that work fine with a maxi controller without the coupler but will not work at all with the IR543. With the coupler installed they work fine with the IR543. If you do not have a phase coupler and have a electric dryer turn it on and see if your lights work. The dryers heating elements bridge your 115V legs together and basiclly do the same thing a coupler would. If your lights work with the dryer running you need a phase coupler. If this does not work chances are you have noise on the line.
