Does anyone actually get good audio pickup from the microphone built into most XCam cameras? So far I've tried three cameras, and all produce the same loud hum when the audio cable is plugged into the LINE-IN of any kind of amplifier or 2.4G A/V sender.

Does it need to be routed to a MICROPHONE input instead? If so, they shouldn't package them with standard RCA line connectors.

In practical use, I don't have much need for the microphone and have simply left it unconnected. Being creative, I'm sure knowing I could get reasonable sound thru one would make me find a good use for it. Heck, I paid for a microphone. It kinda makes me wish it worked, whether I use it or not.

I've got 3 cameras and I don't have the hum you speak of. Now I'm sure I could position them in a way to create a hum, but I didn't get one just setting them up for their intended use. One is inside and the other two are outside. The one that is inside is not in the same room with the amp/speakers. That could be your problem.

It's not great audio, but it's as good or better than the video.

A line level (line in) input is probably too hot. You need a mic input (easy, if you have it on your amp) or an attenuator (around $40). If the hum is not from the impedence mismatch above, it could be 60 cycle hum, and bearing in mind where the signal is passing . . . could be.

The mic output of the camera is line level...you don't need a mic input.
There is no impedance mismatch between the cameras mic output and the 2.4GHz tx input...it's a bridging input.
Impedance mismatch does not cause hum anyway.
The hum is probably inductive pickup in the mic's preamp (inside the camera) nothing you can do other then eliminating the source of the hum.

I had this problem for a while because I put the camera to close to a metal frame. Try moving the camera around or laying it on the floor in the middle of your room.
