I'm ready to buy some X-10 components and have two questions. First, is there any reason that lamp modules can't be used with plug strips or surge protectors? Second, I've read some threads about ceiling fan switches and I'm still uncertain whether anyone has found an X-10 switch that doesn't hum. My fan does not have a light but I would like to control the fan speed with a dimmer type switch. Thanks in advance for your advice.

A power strip shouldn't be a problem but a surge protector probably will be. You generally have to isolate surge strips with noise filters so nothing on the surge strip can be X10 controlled.

The X10 switches do not hum but most fans do when they are connected to an inductive load dimming X10 switch.
