Other than the automated bathtub (which I don't even use nowadays since I don't have a mobile phone currently), my biggest use of X10 is to turn some lights on and off. Whoop-dee-doo.... I can do that with some basic photosensors or mechanical timers. I don't want to mess with A/V now since I don't have any fancy equipment yet, but I'm trying to brainstorm some other good/unique uses for this X10 stuff.

First thought is to automate some blinds. But the prices for the power units are steep! I feel quite certain that an RC servo can open/close one of my cellular shades -- anyone done this before? I'd need to modify it by removing the feedback potentiometer and creating another stop signal for the servo, but I figure the torque should be enough. Some of the larger blinds may require the expensive units. Any thoughts on this?

I should be getting my cat back soon, and I'm thinking of some X10 uses for that -- like motion sensors to trigger cameras that would put him on the web. But how would I easily stop the cameras so *I* don't end up on the web? Then again, maybe I can make some extra money ...... :-)

What about coffee -- turning on/off the coffee pot with X10 is useless currently cause I still have to fill it with water, add the coffee, etc. Anyone know where I can find a completely automatic coffee pot that will add the water, coffee, creamer, sugar, etc? And I don't mean a large vending machine. :-)

Just brainstorming.....your thoughts/ideas appreciated.

Cheers!
