Hi guys,

Someone was asking something about the VPS-1 in another thread, and it reminded me about something I've been meaning to ask for awhile.

If I have an integrated amp with no discrete on/off codes and with no switched/unswitched outlets or relays, is it possible to use the VPS-1 to monitor its status by hooking it up to some output signal? The line-level or speakers? Or are a these voltages/currents too low?

Thank-you!

If the receiver has a Switched outlet on it plug a 5-12 volt transformer into it and connect it to the VPS-1 and do some programming and your up and running

Or if the receiver has a 12 volt trigger out use that into the VPS-1

No switched outlets. No outlets at all, unfortunately. Am I just out of luck?

Sorry Didnt remember that you said it had no switched outlets

You could put a light sensor on the power led??

you could add a current sensor to the power cord and create a switched outlet

take a look at those, might offer some ideas

The light sensor idea works well, you can also use a video sensor to monitor other things besides video, like digital audio outputs or VCR REC outputs. I used one on the digital audio out of an HP windows media center recently and it works great. I have also used a Xantech CSM1 current flow sensor on more than one occasion to trigger a VPS-1 every time an appliance is turned on or off

Thanks for the input guys.

Regarding the Niles device that can be triggered by another device being turned on; can these things differentiate between a device being powered on but in a "standaby" state (presumably drawing less current) and in "active" state? Or is it just for absolute on/off?

If not, I'll probable have to go with the light-sensor option.

Thanks again!

Yes, the Niles APC2 will work for you. There is a dial to set the sensitivity that you can adjust for your receivers current draw.

Another option is to use a Xantech AC1.....cost less than all options given.

Has a discrete on/off command that works everytime. No current sensing adjustment and problems.
