hey guys, i just posted a thread in CI lounge but am not getting much feedback. hopefully i will get some input here....

I am very interested in using the rk3 and k4 inwall controllers to control multi zone systems such as elan, russound and b&k . just wanted to hear some expierences from anyone using any of these setups. i love elan but the via64 touchpanel leaves a lot to be desired, the terrible resolution and uncustomizable graphics are the main reasons i would like to use somehting else.

one other quick question for anyone who knows RTI's product lineup, is it possible for multiple keypads/ touchscreens to control one piece of equipment via rs232?

and RTI's 232 is still not bi-directional correct? no way to pull info from xm, or ipod, or request?

thanks in advance to anyone with some insight.

I use it with B&K all the time, do you have a specific question?

Yes.

Just one way 232.

doesn't the k4 pull request info from IP?

They have an "object" in TheaterTouch 4 called ReQuest http......

Also, yes I would reccomend this over the via panels. not 2 way yet, but you can already do most of the video things you could do with a via, and you can still control elan products over 232 or ir. AND things coming down the pike will make this panel even better....

We have not used the K4 yet.

Does it support a full screen video page with a composite video feed AND have an invisible IR/Serial overlay page?

If so, you can use the "Elan" ReQuest theme and have a nice one screen control over an ReQuest unit.

The video image from ReQuest has buttons on it. You would just need to put the "invisible" command buttons in the correct places.

tippy-tie: The object you see is a generic "request http" not "ReQuest http". I believe it is for requesting info from an HTTP link not specficially an Audio ReQuest unit.

thanks for quick replies.

basically thats what im doing with via panels right now , using the video overlay. it is nice to have true feedback from tuner but not completely necessary with good programming and fav channel icon buttons. mainly concerned about integrating security and hvac, not a good thing to do if you cant have feedback.

i love the fact that the RTI has a sizeable video window. that can be used as feed back from polk xm tuner or cable box etc...

seems likke a great solution i look forward to trying it out.

The K4 is quite a cool piece.

The HTTP Request is only to SEND info to any device on the network that uses control over IP. Does return anything to the K4 however.

No 2 way RS-232 AT THIS TIME... but they have a piece called an XP8 which is a replacement for the RP6 and will have 2-way RS232

I've been trying to use the video window to display a GUI from my music servers (Escient). Only problem is: If the video window is too small, text is unreadable.. If window is too big, you have no room for buttons on the touchscreen to control/navigate the GUI.

Also, I though that I could overlay graphics on top of the video... thus allowing me to use a full 640x480 video window, and overlay control buttons. But, the video window ALWAYS displays on top of every other graphic layer... even though it looks like it will work in the designer software.

I've been sending all of my thoughts to RTI... and they definately seem to be interested in ways to make it better. I've found a few other small glitches... but nothing perilous.. so I'll wait to hear their response/solutions etc... before I post here and cause a shit storm against them. Overall, the product is excellent.
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...
