I've just had to replace a T2-C for a customer who broke the screen. RTI and our suppliers say there are no replacement parts for the remote.
There recommendation is to throw it in the bid as it costs more to replace the screen than buy a new remote!! What a waste!!
In an era where we are encouraged to recycle they want me to throw out an expensive piece of electronic equipment because a replaceable part is broken.
Anyone know where I can get a screen for the remote. I would hate to throw out a perfectly good remote.
Cheers, Steve

We might be living in times where we are encouraged to recycle etc, but just look at how quickly the electronics we use change and improve. Phones, Ipods, even plasma/LCD TV's are made to just be tossed because the latest version has come down so low in price that no one would pay the minimal costs to have it repaired if broken. You can buy a bluray player for $100, who can have a business model that would be profitable to fix these? Customers are not going to pay even $50 to have someone look at and figure out whats wrong with it, let alone the labour to fix it. You just go and buy a new one. Look around you, how many TV repair shops are left.... Sad and certainly seems wasteful.

With touchscreens it may seem as easy as replacing a piece of glass (like a windsheild) but the truth is the hundreds of "tentacles" and "nerve endings" need to be reattached which makes for a tedious process and the huge labor cost. Many times there are problems down the line because they can never be attached properly or with the same level of precision as the original factory design. Everyone wants to recycle, but it's the labor that is the killer.

The screen on a T2-C is a simple module that can be removed and replaced easily. It would take me 5 minutes to fix.
I'll just have to keep in stock for spare parts I guess!!
If anyone has a T2-C with a good screen, but broken elsewhere, let me know.
Cheers, Steve

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions. |

Hell dont throw any RTI remotes away that have cracked screens give them to me. I will fix them, and yes there are replacement parts available just look at the PDA part number on the back of the screen. Caution, getting the ribbon cable off and back on is a pain in the ass if you have never done this before so be warned.

Thank for Your help! This was me being a prick, my apologies- it happened when you revived an ancient thread in order to pull off some serious magic. However by asking 'do the T2c, x, and i share the same screen'- well this reveals a ZERO experience with the product guy. So, to answer- they absolutely do not. They differ in build material and resolution.
