Looking at controlling some window shading units with RTi and slave relays. I have found some ir based controllable dry contact relays made by Xantech, but does anybody have another RS232 hardware devices they would recommend to this application as to make my design rock solid

Thanks Guys!

ok call me crazy but why not use the relays that are built into the rp-6? they can be used as dry contacts or as 12 volt triggers. just a thought.

Eight shading motors.........16 closure points for full control.

Thanks for your thoughts ...........

ok are they all going up or down at same time? or individual control?

8 motors to me means you have 8 shades or blinds going up or down

16 closure points? please eloborate? no/nc/common?

if they all go up and down at same time 1 contact closure will work. if not get a bunch of rp-6 or an xp-8(new processor) or whatever it is called

Wow, lots of suggestions. I personally have had success with draper relays. They are ordered as 1 relay per shade/motor, all relays connect to an RS-232 controllable module via 4-wire Rj-11's, and have complete control via the 232, such as single, system or group.

I was very pleased with the success, since this was done by a window treatment company and had left the new homeowners with no way of control, no wall swich or remote.

I too have had very good results with draper controls with RTI rs232.
I used Draper's SPGC4. It is a line voltage controller for 4 motors.

There are products from www.elec-solutions.com. They can be controlled with IR or RS-232.

I have an ADR2000 for sale if anyone needs one with Power supply left over from a job. We use these all the time to control shades. 8 relays per board with ability to chain 8 boards together from one serial port. Very simple commands to operate.

If they are AC motors then additional relays would be needed as well as the RCM-12. This is not necessarily easier if that is the case.
