Can the length of the mini-jack on the CM-232 be exeneded?? I've got a need to control an XM reciever in a differnt room than the RP-6 is in...and was wondering if I could utilize an unused RG6 run with the proper jacks to wire up a CM-232?

Thanks. That's a thought...however, there are only 2 cat 5's and one feeds a switch in the equipment room and the other is used for connecting a CB4 to the RP6. There are 4 or 5 spare RG6s.....that's why I was thinking this route. Anyone know if it would work??

no it won't work and DO NOT cut the cable. it needs to be over a cat5 or similar cable

Sheath share the cat5 for the switch and the RP6/cb4, then use the other cat5 for your RS 232 with a DB9 to RJ45 adapter.

Or make some kind of crazy F to RJ45 connector and use 2 RG6s (3 conductors) to pass the 232 signal.

From Clint at RTI: the CM-232 is a smart cable, there is circuitry in there and it cannot be extended before the DB9 connector. After the DB9 connector on the CM-232, any way you can get the 3 wires over to your location is okay as long as your pin outs are good.

EDIT
I say F to RJ45 assuming that you are using a standard RJ45 to DB9 at the far end.
Anyway you could connect the conductors of the RG6 to the pins of the 232 input on your device would do.
