I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on where i can learn how to make rs-232 strings? Any books, web sites, ect. ? Any advice on rs-232 would be great. I have to eventually use it to control a Niles GXR2 with an rp6. I have just never used any rs232.
Also if anyone has ever done this configuration before please let me know. Thanks.

Get the Niles documents and start playing with it at home. Read the docs until they actually make sense. This might take a reading or 2, but it will start to make sense.
Learning about checksums and hexadecimal are also important. I learned this in college, so all I have are dry text books.

But Google is your friend...
