I know the XP-8 is rack mountable but that may not work for some: I need to see the front panel display/ access adjustments while working at the back of the rack where all the connections are
RP-6 in current install is at the back side of the rack near the botton: so it would be easiest to put the XP-8 in that area
any ideas?

How do you know you will need to access the front panel while installing it??
We do crestron and I dont need to look at the front to install any of the processors
Seems like all you will need to do is install it in the rack and make your connections, upload and test. Make changes as needed

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far. |

Do you have space to put rear rack rails on? If so put a slide-out shelf (Middle Atlantic SSL) on the bottom and with good wire management you would be able to access the front & back of the XP-8. I would put a hinged panel on the front as well for easy access.

Until the XP-8 has been through a few updates I make GD sure it was easy to remove.

If it's going in a Middle Atlantic rack: The rack is designed to have access to the back. Not a problem.
If it's going on a shelf, in a cabinet: We leave enough wire to slide it out and access the back panel. Again, not a problem.

It is going in a Middle Atlantic Slim 5 rack in a wiring closet: the 2 issues I see are walking around to the front of the rack to see the display/ access menus and the depth of the XP-8: it will be sandwiched in between deeper components top and bottom (in RSH-4A's) so getting to the connecting blocks and ports will be a bit tough
I will install it in the rack and see what the access looks like
Now hoping I will see this beast early this week!!

^^ as long as you leave extra space top and bottom the other components in the rack shouldnt affect it from behind. If wires are hanging down from the above equipment just tie warp them to the shelf above the xp8.

Personally I'll probably always mount it on the top or in the middle in between blank plates.

Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;) |

It has holes for mounting the rack brackets either to the front or rear of the case, so if you have rear mounting rails, the back of the unit will be about flush with the rails. Aside from the programming usb connector being on the front (the back ones are for future things, they say), and of course if you want to see the status screens, this shoud make for a nice install.
