I have not been able to find a reason to use the SPS-1 or VPS-1. I have been able to find discrete On/Off codes for all my equipment (approximately 10), which I have used in the various macros that I set up on the T2. Would there be any reason that I may have overlooked as to why I should use the SPS-1 or VPS-1?
Just curious.

If you don't need it, you don't need it. Many devices do not have discrete power codes (ie. Toshiba), so you need to use something like those sensors to have a fool-proof automated system.

Well, the easy way is go to the file section on Philips Pronto & Marantz RC5000 page and download them.
There are some of them, the most used.
For toshiba DVD for example, you could make a macro to turn on (Play + Stop) and other to turn off (Play + Power), you must play with the timer function (500ms will help) between commands.
