Anyone have experience with the Def Tech Pro Cinema 600 speaker set? I’m helping my daughter find a good but lower cost 5.1 speaker set. We were able to listen to these at a Magnolia inside a Best Buy and they sounded very good for the price. Opinions?

Exactly what they are, good for the price. The set is a little anemic in anything more than a small room, but I would still put it together with a marantz 1601 over a bose any day.

Dave, thanks. Yes this would be for a small room. Can you suggest any other speaker sets in a $800-$1000 range. Also, why do you suggest the Marantz? We were thinking of using one of the lower end Denon's, but I'm open minded about it.

If its in the budget I would look at stepping up to the Pro Cinema 800, bigger sub, larger drivers in the satelites. Also look at the PSB Alpha series, pretty decent entry level / quality speakers, but might take you above the $800 range. Another look might be a Mirage set up, however I have all Definitive in my home and am very happy.

As far as the Marantz I'm just a fan. Its pretty much all I've put in for the last few years and have been very happy. Nothing wrong with Denon, or look at Onkyo with their 608, very able receiver at the price point.
