My Buddy hooked me up with his old Vegas. They still sound awesome. However, the orange foam surrounds are beginning to deteriorate. They are completely through in 2 places on one of them. I have seen Replacement Surrounds on Ebay, and have watched a couple YouTube videos that claim that these can be fixed. I have better than average DIY skills, but have never worked on a speaker - especially expensive ones.
My question: Can I reasonably expect to be able to breathe some new life into these 20 year old, 15", kick-ass speakers?
For the $50 +/- of the new surrounds and some sweat equity, I feel they are worth the effort. Am I right?

Hey SUPERKSR,

Back when consumer electronic's were made to repair ! Speakers were repaired all the time they made cone kit's for just about any speaker on the market , I have done many over the years it is very easy if you find correct kit ,
lucky for me I held on to many kit's from my grandfathers repair shop when he shut it down in 1994 . but it is very easy to do most kits used to come with easy directions . If i were you and found cone kits i would repair them ! nothing today compares to old school !! speaker's amp's recevier's !!!!!!!!!1

Thanks for the response. I was beginning to think I was alone on "Vintage Island." You've given me some confidence to pursue the renovation of these old speakers. When I get around to it, I'll be sure to post my results in detail.

When i was a teenager there was a guy at the flea market every weekend who sold speakers that he made. Woofers for cars. We bought our speakers from him because they were 1/3 the price of the name brands and the guy would repair or replace them for free forever. Over a 4 year period i took my 15" woofers back to him 3 times and got them repaired twice and replaced once. All of my friends had similar experiences.

The biggest issue was the foam surrounds and he would repair them while we waited. Looked pretty straightforward.
