Hello,
I have a Yamaha 5.1 receiver and a LG plasma tv. I need to control them together: power up and down at the same moment so I can disable tv audio and use only yamaha.

Can I do it with a remote control with macro. I mean: does it really works? Or the remote sometimes fail to power up one of the components?

Is there another way? A cable to connect them? In that case this evening I will look for exact model of LG and Yamaha.

Thanks in advance for interest!

That doesn't really make any sense. If you power them down together, then you won't be able to use the Yamaha at all.
Are you using the TV audio at all? Do you just want to disable it for movies? For music? Do you need the TV on for music? More info on how you are trying to use it is needed.

Yes you can. We do it everyday. If you don't program it correctly, then yes, it can get out of synch.

The only way for the 2 different devices from different mfgs to communicate is with an HDMI cable. However, that is a royal PIA and extremely unreliable.

I agree that your question is hard to understand. However, I guess that you want a way to reliably switch the receiver inputs so that TV sound plays through the receiver. Most models of Yamaha receivers and LG TVs respond IR signals that are termed "discretes". Discrete On means that the TV will turn on if it had been off and stay on if it was already on. Similarly, the receiver (probably) can respond to signals which unconditionally switch to a particular input.

So if you use macros which use discrete signals, synchronization isn't a problem. If the receiver is off, and the TV is on, a macro which sends discrete On to both units will simply make both units be on.

To make this work, the remote needs to have the discrete signals built-in, or be programmable. There are remotes which can do this ranging in price (and corresponding feature sets) from $20 up to Big Bucks.

Thanks to all for replies.

Infact it was a bit difficult to to explain the situation because I am not english native.

Basically I want to use only receiver audio output: not use anymore the tv audio.

And, unfortunately, I need an "idiot proof" solution; I need that if the tv is on also the receiver is on, else people complains "audio is broken", "sell the receiver we use only the tv", and so on.

Anyway I will look for discrete signals macro thanks you again for help!
