I have a Marantz SR-14EX receiver and all of a sudden I am getting static when listening to to any media, DVD, TV, CD. I had this receiver for 4 or 5 years without any issues. I made sure I had solid speaker connections and tried switching out the speakers. No matter what still get static. The only time I don't is when I am listening in stereo mode. Could this be the processor?

Could be. Source independant (analog/digital)? Do no sound modes work at all? How about the pure modes?

It is digital. I am using an optical and coax. cables and it's like that with all. The sound is static or muffled when watching tv in the digital channels range, ok when i am in the lower range ( abc, nbc, ..) but when I switch to the high def, the static sound comes back. It is also muffled/ static when I watch a movie on my DVD player or Sony mega changer.

I tried different modes on the receiver and the only one that sounds ok is the "stereo". all others I am getting the static/ muffled sound; eg. dts, movie, thx.

Thank you for any input.

This happened with a different model Marantz unit belonging to one of my clients. They had to send it to service. It was a problem with the surround circuitry.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
