im using the denon 4308ci

i have 7.1 setup in for my main zone( no bi amp or bi wiring ) and have a pair of speakers also hooked up to surr b /amp assign and am going to be adding another pair to amp assign 2 for a out side set .

i dont mind it down mixing to 5.1 when using the main and either zone 2 or 3 and to 3.1 when using main, zone 2 and zone 3

i am unsure which to choose Manual setup>option setup> amp assign ?????

my problem is i cant get any sound of zone 2. im unsure if i have them wired on the wrong terminals and need to move them to amp assign 2 ? but if this is so then will i be able to use the zone 3?

all of my inputs are strictly hdmi except my dvd changer is component vid with rca audio and rca digital audio.

please help

I would set it for Zone2/3

Connect Zone 2- Amp Assign 2
Connect Zone 3- Surround B/Amp Assign

Your Surround Back ch- Surround Back

my problem is i cant get any sound of zone 2. im unsure if i have them wired on the wrong terminals and need to move them to amp assign 2 ? but if this is so then will i be able to use the zone 3?

Analog only for the Multi Zone. You could get Digital from Optical or Toslink but, the signal is limited to 2ch PCM, no multi ch.

all of my inputs are strictly hdmi except my dvd changer is component vid with rca audio and rca digital audio.

please help

ok so i just need to move my connections.

so in order to get stereo out of zone 2/3 i need to have rca or a digital audio hooked up from that source?

not a big deal since i have a few extra cables , can i still get the signal even with an optical digital signal ?

thank you a bunch for your help.

I would stick with your HDMI connections and also the digital that you have made. You would need to make an Analog audio connection from each of the devices to the assigned input on the AVR.

Not going to happen due to copy protection. Analog cable is your only route.

Go with your digitals for the Main zone and Analogs for the multi.
