HELP ME: Client just had a new Comcast HD-DVR Cisco RNG-200 which is probably not the model # but is on the front of the unit, Probably there new Explorer 8550 series, Has a new Remote I havn't seen before, Looks like the standard Comcast silver remote but a definate shade darker, almost charcole color rather than silver. Having a very hard time lerning in several of the commands. More than half of the buttons programmed fine but thease last few are real buggers. I learned on a previous trip out to this house that to learn anything here I had to first turn off the samsung flat panel LCD, it was throwing out so much IR it wasn't alowing the remote to learn anything.
But thats not my problem now, Or is it. I forgot to turn off the Tv the first time i learned in the new Cable box, Nothing worked, I erased and tryed again with TV off . More than half learned, but im stuck, Tryed every trick I know.
Can anyone offer anything helpful, please respond

Heh, try a search of all forums... there have been numerous problems with the RNG-200. Generally the recommendation is to try to get a different box.

Which remote are you using? Alot of them have the new codes for that unit already.

Just so you know....
The charcoal color Comcast (1068) remote is just cosmetically different. The actual firmware inside is the same as the silver remote (1067BX3) with the red OK/Select button.

The RNG-200 uses the XMP (device 62.23) protocol. It is notoriously difficult to learn, but as noted above, many newer remotes have the necessary code. The setup code for UEI remotes is cable 1982.

Since the protocol, device numbers, and function codes are all known, it is in principle possible to compute the Pronto Hex codes, if that is what you need.

I fought half of a day trying different codes, relocating the emitter, firing IR straight from an RTI remote, switched back to rf and tried a high powered blaster from 6 different locations, all this time it would work with the charcoal stock remote from anywhere in the room.

I started reading some horror stories in a thread here and gave up. I told the customer to order a different cable box and if he needed me to come back and hook it up, I would.

He called a week later and said after resetting the box it was working fine........go figure!
