Receiver: Yamaha RX-V3900 with Sirius Tuner
TV: Sony Bravia 52" LCD
Sat: Direct Tv HR20-700
Other: Sony Playstation PS3, Ipod
My room is 16'x24' with 11 foot ceilings. The system I have is more than sufficiently loud for this room.

Usage profile: Sat TV/BD 60% Sat Radio 30%, Other music 10%

I have a ten year old M&K dual 12 inch 1500w subwoofer, which I am keeping.
I am looking to upgrade my 20 year Infinity front, center, and rear channel speakers.

I am looking for recommendations for replacing these five speakers (with seven?) for $2-$3K. I prefer full range main channel speakers.

Best recommendation is to take a compilation of your favorite songs (in original CD form - not itunes or mp3 downloads), and go listen to pairs of speakers at a local dealer(s).

Listen for the staging/imaging (close your eyes and imagine your at a concert and see if you can tell the heights, depths and horizontal placement of the instruments and vocalists). Find a speaker that plays your music the way you want it to play your music the way you think it should sound...and find one you like the tonal characteristics of...or find a dealer you feel comfortable with who asks you questions and then makes recommendations based on your feedback...you may still want to have a listen to the speakers before going with the dealer recommendation outright.

Yes, thank you for the advice. But, I am looking for some recommendations for brands and models in this price range to narrow down my choices. Can anybody point me in the right direction? B&W? Kilipsch? What is good , what is overpriced, what is garbage ?

Box Only, Sound Extra?

So the budget is $3K for full surround, less sub? Lots of choices, but what are your music preferences?

Music preference is Classic Rock. I am keeping my M&K subwoofer, so I am looking for full range front channels, a center channel and rear channel speakers. I am not sold on the need for front effect channel speakers, but I am not necessarily opposed. Not a fan of Bose, if that is what you mean.

So, smartass, instead of answering my questions, you are going to prove how much smarter you are than me by nitpicking. They were called front channel effect speakers in my DSP-A1 manual, now they are called "Surround Left", and "Surround Right" in my RX-V3900 manual. Whatever the **** you want to call speakers #6 and #7 in a 7.1 channel system. That is not EVEN CLOSE to what I was looking for -- BRAND AND MODEL recommendations for speakers. This is about the 5th post in a row in various forums where I have received exactly ZERO help. Thanks for nothing.

Yamaha has or had an additional pair of outputs for front speakers to be installed higher than the left and right and they were just used for additional effects.

Look at Monitor Audio's Silver series speakers.

some amps. like the yammie z11 have 11 channels. front effects to use above front mains. they also have rear effects that would go above the rears.

front effect speakers really aren't the 2 that define your system 7.1 instead of 5.1.

to answer the question specifically, i'd use monitor audio too, maybe definitive technology
