First time posting but I found a fix to a long existing problem on my Kenwood KRF-V7030D receiver and felt obligated to try to help others. I bought the receiver probably 4 years ago. About 6 months after buying the receiver the remote that came with the receiver, p.n. RC-R0609, quit working. I changed batteries, whacked it (typical guy thing), tried everything but couldn't get it to work. I lived without it but finally got fed up the other day and did an internet search thinking I needed to buy a new remote. I found a thread on this site stating the problem wasn't with the remote but with the receiver itself. Seems Kenwood isn't too good at soldering it's IR remote pickup to the circuit board on a wide variety of receivers. Someone posted a link to a picture of their board showing how the IR remote tabs solder had broke away. I took mine apart and sure enough, the solder on mine was broke too. My board had a different configuration than the picture in the other thread but by just looking at the front of the board I could see where the IR remote tabs ran thru the board and looking on the back I looked close and found the tabs. A little solder and it was working again.

I don't know if this was a breakage point planned by Kenwood so they could get more $$ fixing units or what but it seems amazing the same problem would exist on multiple board styles. Where's the quality anymore?!!!

I don't have a web site to post the pictures on but if anyone wants digital pics I took the opportunity to take several detailed shots. Just email me @ onmy3rd50@cdsinet.net and I'll send them too you.

I have a same problem too with my kenwood krf-7030d and I was wondering if you could have a help for my problem too. Can you send me some photos from your solderings and point to picture what parts you soldered again? If you have some tips how to disassemble whole amplifier i would be preciaded. I hope thay you have still pictures from that fix you made :) I pictured my pcb from amplifier but I didn't disassemble it yet because I hoped that I don't break it.

Hi. Fellow Kenwood remote dismantlers (I nearly ruined the remote the amount of times I took it apart thinking that was the problem).
I found this thread by searching google. So after borrowing a friends soldering iron and solder I opened my amp and found the cracks in the solder for the remote sensor, somehow managed to add solder with what seemed like a oversize soldering iron (not used to soldering on circuit boards) lucky I didn't fry the board actually.
So now after 6 years I have remote control of my amp which I have owned for nearly 10 years.
This amp still pumps the sound, has 140W, dolby digital and dts, which has served me well for the dvd cycle. I have blu ray now and really want a hdmi amp with dts-hd master audio and the new dolby digital hi def codec, but just can't afford it at the moment.
Atleast I have injected a little bit more life into my krf-v7030d.
