Are you SURE you have the 'audio OUT' from the tv going to the 'audio in'(video 1, tv, or however it's labeled) of the rca?

You may need to go into the menu of the TV and change the audio setting to 'fixed out', turn the internal speakers off, or turn the volume of the tv up a lot if it doesn,t have one of the other two settings.

im sure i have them in the irght spot but on the back of the tv it says "component 2 then under that it says y, Pb, Pr. then next to that it says audio video input 2 and under that , video L(mono) R and then it has a plug in that looks like something that goes into the back a computer.
does it ,matter if the tv is a Sanyo and the system is an RCA?

If you have it plugged into the 'input' you described above, thats the problem!
You need to use an 'output' from the tv.
Does the tv have a 'monitor out',or 'audio out'( it might say fixed/variable)
The brand differance doesn't matter.

i had it plugged in right on the back of the tv. but in the front i have another spot to put something but it says "in" so that wont work there either. when i touched the jack to it it made a "scratching" noise. do i need a video wire for a ground?

Don't use the front 'input'.
No, video is not needed.
Are you useing the red and white (not yellow; thats video) outputs?

Did the scratchy noise come from the speakers of the home theater system? If so, your not getting audio out of the tv.

If your tv doesn't have an 'audio out' (some don't ) you might be stuck.
Do you have a cable box or vcr?
You could connect to the audio out of the vcr and use the vcr to change the channels.
Kind of hoky but it works.

If you have a cable box, run the audio out directly from the cable box to the input of your receiver. Run the video only to the TV from the Cable box.
